Illegal mining: court reprimands State

April 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - HYDERABAD:

A Division Bench of the Hyderabad High Court comprising Justice Dilip Bhosale and Justice A. Ramalingeswara Rao on Wednesday expressed its displeasure at the attitude of the Telangana government in dealing with illegal mining at Mannapur village of Tarrur mandal in Mahabubnagar district.

The Bench was dealing with a writ petition filed by Krishna Mohan Reddy of Gadwal. He complained that the company headed by Snigdha, daughter of former Minister D.K. Aruna, had resorted to illegal mining. The report of the senior officers of the mining and other government departments confirmed that mining was taking place beyond the leased area. The Bench then directed that all mining operations be stopped in the area.

The government informed the court last Wednesday that they were taking all steps to take appropriate action.

On Wednesday, the Bench was told that as the revision filed by the lease holder was pending final orders regarding cancellation of lease, fines etc. could not be imposed. The Bench reprimanded the officers for not acting as per its orders.
