Marking the end of the month-long Ramzan fasting, Muslims from all walks of life in the city gathered to celebrate ‘Id-ul-Fitr’ on Monday, after the sighting of the new moon.

Wearing new clothes, the pious gathered at mosques to offer prayers with the biggest congregation seen at Idgah Mir Alam in old city. The prayers here were led by Khateeb of Mecca Masjid, Abdullah Qureshi Al-Azhari.

After the prayers were over, devotees greeted by embracing each other. A festive atmosphere prevailed through the city on the occasion.

Petty vendors selling toys and confectionaries did a brisk business.

Police deployed

The police had deployed forces near all mosques to ensure peace, and keeping to the spirit of the day no untoward incidents were reported. The Idgah Mir Alam, Mecca Masjid and Ujal-e-shah Eidgah, Saidabad and Eidgah Qutb Shahi tombs were all spruced up for the occasion.

After the prayers, it was time for a sumptuous lunch followed by the special sweet dish ‘Sheer Khurma’.

Sumtuous lunch

There were various mouth-watering varieties of Biryani and meat served across the city.

The celebrations went on late into the night too, as friends and relatives dropped by to exchange gifts and greetings.
