Thanks to its low crime rate compared to other Indian metros, Hyderabad has been recognised as the top Indian city to live in for expatriates. A list of rankings of 231 cities across the globe saw Hyderabad ranking 144.
The ‘Quality of Living Rankings’ was compiled by Mercer, a New York-based consulting firm. According to a press release, Hyderabad had slipped five positions over last year but third-time in a row, maintained its lead over other Indian cities.
Water and power problems in the city were blamed for its slip though power situation last summer was noticeably better than previous years. The data for the rankings was analysed between September and November 2016, Mercer mentions on its website. The rankings were based on various parameters including socio-economic and political.
Other Indian cities that found a place on the rankings table include Pune (145), Bengaluru (146), Chennai (151), Mumbai (154), Kolkata (160) and New Delhi (161), which ranked lower than any Indian city mainly due to its high crime rate, alarming air pollution levels and water shortage, the press release states.
At the top, Austrian capital city of Vienna was ranked first while Zurich in Switzerland ranked second. Rankings were also provided for all cities based on infrastructure. Mumbai ranked higher than any other Indian city while Bengaluru ranked lower than other cities in the country.
