The Apple map development centre has already been set up in Gachibowli here and the company is scouting for suitable place to set up its phone manufacturing facility at various places, including Hyderabad.

Disclosing this in the Legislative Council here on Wednesday, IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao said that the company acquired a small unit near Bangalore that manufactures 5,000 to 10,000 phones.

A bigger phone manufacturing unit would be set up by the company in the second phase shortly. The final location was not yet decided, he said.

He said IT companies were also being encouraged to operate from tier-two cities like Karimnagar, Warangal, Janagaon, Huzurabad and also in Jadcherla under the Rural Technology Policy of the Government.
