The mercury took a dip on Sunday offering some reprieve for denizens from the week-long hot summer conditions in the city.

The day temperature stood at 39.3 degree Celsius, a considerable drop from Saturday’s maximum temperature of 42.7 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature continued to hover around 29 degree Celsius.

The forecast for Monday is generally cloudy conditions with rain or thundershowers occurring in some parts and the day temperature hovering around 41 degree Celsius.

The Met department officials attributed the drop in temperature to the dense clouding, which could keep recurring till the onset of monsoon. ‘‘If the clouding happens again, then there could be further drop in the day temperature,” said an official.
