Two-wheeler major Honda Motorcycles & Scooter India (HMSI) President & CEO Keita Muramatsu on Thursday said they were aiming at a 20 per cent growth in sales and at achieving a 3 per cent increase in the company’s market share in the segment in the fiscal 2016-17.

Currently, the company’s market share was estimated at 20 per cent, as of April 30. In the last fiscal, they had sold 44.6 lakh units and was working towards achieving a sale volume of about 54 lakh units, he said. This would be powered by an increase in capacity of its plant in Gujarat from 46 lakh units to 58 lakh units, he said.

While the first assembly line with a 6 lakh units capacity was already up and running, the second with a similar capacity would be commissioned by June this year.

The company has plants in Haryana, Rajasthan and Karnataka. A fourth assembly line in its Karnataka plant would be ready in about 2 years’ time, entailing an investment of approximately Rs.600 crore, Mr. Muramatsu said, speaking to presspersons.

He participated in the celebrations of the first anniversary of the Hyderabad Traffic Park at Goshamahal that HMSI had adopted, in association with the Hyderabad Traffic Police. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police P. Papaiah attended the function.

According to an HMSI fact sheet, it had educated over 7,000 citizens on road safety and safe riding during the year, including 500 women who learnt how to ride a two-wheeler, while about 3,500 children from the age of five onwards were educated on road safety by skilled HMSI Safety Instructors, free-of-cost.
