Holiday for Eid on July 7, 8

July 06, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - Hyderabad:

The Telangana Government has declared holidays on July 7 and 8 for Eid ul Fitr. July 6, one of the two days that it had earlier declared holidays, will now be a working day.

The change followed a communication from Secretary of the Markazi Ruyath-e-Hilal Committee, Hyderabad that the moon could not be sighted and hence Eid ul Fitr will be celebrated on Thursday instead of Wednesday.

A Government order issued on Tuesday said Thursday will now be a holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act.

Earlier in the day, Telangana State Minority Employees Service Association, had in a letter to Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, appealed to declare July 7 and 8 as public holidays for Eid.
