Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) seems to be taking up more civic initiatives after reaching the finishing stage of improving footpaths below metro stations across the 30-km inaugural stretch of Nagole-Ameerpet-Miyapur.

At the weekend convergence meeting held with other civic departments like GHMC, HMDA, Water Board and others, top officials have decided to entrust HMR with the responsibility of providing ‘crossing platforms’ at eight closed signal junctions with features like bollards, zebra crossing, rumble strips with studs and signages, etc.

These are to be put up at RTC X Roads, Musheerabad Cross Roads, KCP Junction, Shalimar Junction, Ajantha Gate, Gaddiannaram Junction, Saleemnagar Junction, Dilsukhnagar, Mettuguda Tarnaka and S.R.Nagar. Plus, all along the metro rail corridors, wet and dry dustbins are to be installed every 500 metres.

GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy and HMWSSB MD M. Dana Kishore have also agreed to immediately take up road restoration work in Malkajgiri within a few months where extensive water pipelines were laid digging up several roads. List of the roads to be restored in the next six months in other sections would be shared with other agencies too.

It was decided to take up long delayed water supply infrastructure work at weaker section housing programmes of Vambay and JNNURM in various locations across the twin cities with work progressing at four locations and tenders being called in the remaining locations. The Water Board has also assured to take up water work at five of the two-bedroom housing sites for completion in the next six months as they were nearing completion.

GHMC has identified 102 locations where there is crossover of sewer lines over the storm water drain pipelines where culverts are getting blocked of which the Water Board has taken up 46 works in the first phase, including the Model House site on the busy Punjagutta-Khairatabad road. The State Disaster Management Authority is to be requested for funding.

Signages are to be improved at 80 ‘accident prone black spots’ identified by the traffic police while tardy pace of junction improvement work too came up for discussion, especially at City College, Paradise, Ashoknagar, Himmatpura, Suchitra crossroads and L.B. Nagar.

Free left turn

Free left turn is to be taken up at 25 places on priority of the 96 identified as these do not require any property acquisition, save for shift of pipelines, transformers, etc. Pending major projects like the Anandbagh and Uppuguda road under bridges were reviewed as here also pipelines shift and relocation of electricity equipment was required by HMWSSB and TSSPDCL.

Issues plaguing flyover work at Botanical Gardens, Filmnagar, Road No.45 Jubilee Hills, Biodiversity Park and JNTU proposed under Strategic Road Development Plan were also discussed.
