For having voluntarily given up land in different parts of the city for the cause of the metro rail project, the city police will soon be having a plush and modern police barracks.
Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMR) is getting ready to hand over two new complexes within the next few months starting with Goshamahal where a five storied building which will be completed first.
Other barracks are under construction at Rasoolpura - which could be the next likely building to be handed over to the police for accommodating its personnel and for training purposes - City College and Chelapura. All the buildings are of five stories with the Metro Rail Corporation spending up to Rs. 25.50 crore for all four facilities.
These new works are being done in lieu of taking over two acres of police quarters land at Rasoolpura and five other police properties in different parts taken for the purpose of alignment, metro rail stations and other works related to the project.
On Friday, Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy along with HMR MD N.V.S. Reddy and other senior officials inspected the ongoing works. Each of the four barracks would be having an average of about 50,000 sft to accommodate about 250 police personnel each.
Mr. Reddy mentioned that the new barracks are strategically located for housing the Central security forces and other rapid action teams that are usually brought here during law and order problems. With training class rooms and senior officers’ accommodation in them, these new facilities would also be used as ‘skill development and training centres’ , he observed. Appreciating the quality of construction , Mr. Reddy said the facilities would be very useful for realising the vision of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao to make Hyderabad a ‘safe city’.
