High Court expresses dismay

July 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:44 am IST - HYDERABAD:

A Division Bench of the Hyderabad High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Dilip B. Bhosale and Justice A. V. Sesha Sai expressed dismay over the action of the Telangana government in appointing V-Cs to the universities in the State in the midst of hearing of cases filed challenging the amendments to act in this regard.

The Bench reserved orders in the writ petitions.

Dr. Manohar Rao and others contended that the government amended the act and went ahead to appoint V-Cs in violation of the norms prescribed by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The government gets unbridled power to appoint the Vice-Chancellors, the petitioners contended.

On Monday, during the course of hearing, the Bench was told that the government issued orders appointing V-Cs to some universities. The Bench said it is not too happy at the manner this was done.
