Satvik Prachar Sangh, an eatery established three decades ago, seems to be foodies’ haunt at Numaish-2018, which concludes on Wednesday.
The canteen, which runs with the motto that prevention is better than cure, has been selling healthy, home-cooked food at pocket-friendly prices — between ₹10 and ₹30 — at the exhibition grounds. From khichdi and buttermilk to boiled groundnut and lime water, the stall offered everything devoid of ‘bad’ calories. Dahi vada and fruit salad also featured on its menu.
Among customers flocking to the stall were mostly young professionals, who found a healthy alternative to greasy junk food. “Eating this light and healthy food is a good break from pizzas and burgers. A true relief for the body and soul,” says Tharun Das, an IT student.
Not many had thought that hogging after shopping would be accompanied with zero guilt. Homemaker Prachi Jayash says, “I love to eat food that is light on the tummy. I want to encourage my eight-year-old son to choose this over pizza.”
Interestingly, the canteen is promoted by freedom fighter and former member of National Commission for Backward Classes, Babu Rao Varma, who is keen on simple and healthy living. It has 10 staff members, all of whom are customer friendly. The canteen hopes to reach out to schools and colleges to promote healthy eating habits among students
