Hearing on rummy

The arguments in the writ petition filed challenging the action of the Telangana government in prohibiting online rummy game will continue on Wednesday.

The Bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice T.Rajini was hearing a writ petition filed by several petitioners from Mumbai and other places.

It may be recalled that the Telangana Government has taken serious view of the activities in the name of playing cards. It had issued an Ordinance prohibiting playing of rummy even online.

The counsel for the petitioner claimed that rummy was a game of skill and not game of chance. The Supreme Court had given several judgments on this issue. The Telangana government should not have issued an ordinance amending the Gaming Act. The Bench said that it will hear the arguments on Wednesday.
