HC frowns upon handling of affairs of study centres

A Division Bench of the High Court at Hyderabad comprising of Acting Chief Justice D.B. Bhosale and Justice S.V. Bhatt on Friday expressed its deep disappointment at the way the AP and Telangana governments have been handling the issue of regional study centres of BR Ambedkar Open University and reprimanded them for their attitude.

The bench was dealing with taken up case which took on record the news that 92 regional centres catering to three lakh students will be closing due to reluctance of Telangana State to extend the services. The Bench had passed orders three months ago, asking the AP government to fund the salaries of the staff deployed in regional centers of the Open University situated in AP. The University was asked to continue the services.

On Friday, the AP complained that the university authorities have stopped offering some courses and the website of the university does not give details of the regional centres. It claimed the GO has been issued to pay salaries, etc., The Telangana government said that the GO mentioned by the AP State does not reflect the claims made by AP. The Bench minced no words. After giving a dressing down to both the States , the Bench asked the Registrar of the Open University to file an affidavit about the steps he had taken to implement the orders of the court.
