The fourth phase of Telangana’s flagship mass afforestation programme ‘Telangana ku Haritha Haaram’ (TKHH) will be launched in mid-July, with the target of 39 crore seedlings for plantation across the state.

A review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi discussed the details of the programme implementation on Tuesday.

He has directed officials to provide drip irrigation equipment to farmers who come forward to plant date palms in their lands, and asked them to take up plantation of at least five to six lakh fruit bearing trees in each district to tackle monkey menace.

This year, the target of date palm plantation is fixed at two crore, up from 1.70 crore planted during the previous year.

Training will be offered to officials and staff from various departments including Agriculture, Municipal, Panchayat and Horticulture on June 25 and 28 for better results from the programme, Mr. Joshi informed.

This year, the focus will be on school-going children who will be used as green ambassadors to carry home the message of tree protection.

Mr. Joshi has asked officials to begin the work of urban parks from July 15.

Special Chief Secretary Ajay Mishra, OSD to the Chief Minister Priyanka Varghese, and principal chief conservator of forests P.K. Jha attended the review meeting.
