The level at which the Adivasis crave for development was seen on Wednesday when Raj Gonds and others tribal community members of Gundala in Tiryani mandal of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district hosted a reception for Ramagundam Commissioner of Police Vikram Jeet Duggal, Superintendent of Police Sunpreet Singh, and other police officers.
It was held to thank the police, especially the Police Commissioner, for laying a non-black top yet motorable road between Ootla in Dandepalli mandal and Gundala.
“The entire stretch of seven kilometres passes through difficult hilly terrain,” said Mr. Duggal, recalling his first visit to Gundala as Adilabad Superintendent in June, 2016. “Laying the road was essential for ushering in development in this severely backward area,” he said.
Appreciating the traditional welcome given by the aboriginal people, Mr. Duggal said the event displayed the tribals’ wish for development. “They do not want Maoist activities in their village but need development.”
The top police officials exhorted the villagers to seek the government’s support in development. “Keep away from anti-social elements because you do not want your children to become anti-social,” the Commissioner said.
The officers also too part in a community lunch organised by the villagers. Among those who attended the event were Mancherial Deputy Commissioner of Police John Wesley, Assistant Commissioner of Police Chennaiah, Asifabad Deputy Superintendent of Police A. Bhaskar, and Luxettipet CI B. Mohan, and Tiryani SI Budde Swamy.
