Members of the Green Fields Plot Owners Association on Sunday threatened to commit mass suicide if the Government failed to resolve the long-pending land dispute at Kanajiguda in Alwal, in which Secunderabad Cantonment MLA P. Shankar Rao was allegedly involved.

“Please give us permission to end our lives if the Government does not come to our rescue. We will donate our organs to the Mohan Foundation before ending our lives,” Association president S. Chandrasekhar told reporters at press conference here on Sunday.

Shankar Rao draws flak

Lashing out at Mr. Rao, he pointed out that over 1,000 families have been facing hardships due to his ‘involvement’. Mr. Chandrasekhar reiterated his charge that the MLA tried to grab 75 acres of government land at Kanajiguda by submitting fake documents and also attempted to prevent regularisation of the land by misrepresenting facts.

He urged State Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar to constitute a House Committee on the issue.

While there was near-unanimous support for Mr. Rao after he was admitted to a hospital following police detention, none bothered about the plot owners. If the MLA was innocent, why was he evading the police investigation, Mr. Chandrasekhar wondered.
