Govt to issue notification on LA Act draft rules

Telangana government is likely to issue a preliminary notification on the draft rules on the amended Land Acquisition Act on Wednesday.

The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition and Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Telangana Amendment) Bill, 2016 became an Act with the State government issuing a gazette notification on May 17.

The draft rules were approved by the Revenue Department and sent to the Secretary, Law department for clearance. The preliminary notification would invite public to submit their objections and opinions within 15 days. After that the final notification would be issued.

Sources said that similar procedure was followed when the Land Acquisition Act, 2013 and then preliminary notification was issued on November 13, 2014 calling for objections and the final notification of rules was issued on December 15. The Amended Land Acquisition Bill, 2016 was passed in both the Houses of legislature on December 28, 2016 to remove delays in land acquisition and compensation to the displaced expeditiously. However, the Centre suggested some changes in the Bill and which were made in the special sitting of the State Assembly and the Council on April 30 and sent it back to the Centre. The Centre then sent it to the President for his assent and he gave his assent on May 13 and sent it to the State government.
