Govt. to hold grama sabha in Vemulaghat

The Telangana Government told the Hyderabad High Court that steps will be taken to conduct Grama sabha in Vemulaghat village wherein lands are to be acquired for Mallannnasagar project as per provisions of the new Land Acquisition Act.

A statement was made to this effect before Justice A. Ramalingeswar Rao by D. Prakash Reddy, Advocate General, Telangana on Monday. The judge was dealing with a writ petition filed by Tirupathi and 29 others.

They said that without conducting grama sabha the authorities had initiated proceedings to conduct inquiry under section 15 of the Act. They wanted the relevant material in Telugu language. The Government orders state that all the rules shall be made available in Telugu.

Without giving any relevant information in Telugu language the officers had concluded hearing and at any time the final declaration would be made under section 19. The judge said that the issue of grama sabha is important. D. Prakash Reddy, Advocate General, said that the Government would follow all the rules scrupulously and it was ready to conduct grama sabha in the village.

He said that on technicalities the projects were sought to be stalled and requested the court not to entertain such petitions.

The judge inquired about the grama sabha. The case is listed on October 25 and the AG said that by then the court will be informed about the steps taken to conduct grama sabah in the village.
