The State government has released ₹ 29 crore to the district for taking up various activities for the welfare of fisherfolk and giving an impetus to fisheries production.

The Fisheries department has set a target of distributing around 1.92 lakh fish seed to the fishermen this year. At a meeting organised by the Fisheries Department in the mandal headquarters town of Sujathanagar on Monday, Collector Rajeev G. Hanumanthu said fish seed will be distributed to the fisherfolk for free, from next week.

There are around 2896 members registered and a total of 53 fishermen cooperative societies all over the district.

He underlined the need for creating proper awareness on the free fish seed distribution to achieve the intended results.
