Govt exploring schemes for BCs: Minister

The State government is actively engaged in preparation of schemes envisaging direct disbursal of benefits to the backward class communities without insistence on bank linkages.

Finance Minister Eatala Rajender said the schemes intended to extend necessary financial assistance to the backward communities through banks remained on paper. Middlemen used to take the benefits in case of loans that had been sanctioned. To prevent recurrence of such incidents, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao had constituted a Cabinet sub-committee headed by Minister Jogu Ramanna to recommend measures for uplift of these communities.

The committee held elaborate discussions with stakeholders and had accordingly prepared a report which would be submitted to the Chief Minister soon. Mr. Rajender said extending loan upto ₹1 lakh to nomadic tribes and financial assistance to barbers for setting up new saloons/upgrading existing saloons were among the recommendations made by the committee which prioritised nomadic groups, barbers and members of the vishwa karma communities for extending the benefits.

The schemes envisaged in this direction would be launched before this month-end, once the recommendations were approved by the CM. Chief Minister, he said asserting that the government had resolved to dedicate the year as a year of welfare for BCs and other marginalised sections.
