The Tabebuia aurea, popularly known as Golden yellow trumpet tree, which is in full bloom has lent a new look to the otherwise boring and patience-testing road opposite MGM Hospital in the city.

The yellow flowers in bunches without leaves brightened the road leaving the motorists mesmerised with their beauty. At least for a while, the road users have stopped cursing local body for the bad roads and are rejoicing in the aesthetic beauty of nature. These trees are found in median from MGM Hospital to Venkatrama Theatre on Narasampet Road.

Kakatiya University Professor of Botany V.S. Raju said these golden yellow trumpet trees are deciduous and leafless when they blossom. They flower from January to March. “They look similar to Pheltophorum Pterocarpum but these are thin and occupy less space. They are planted along roads as avenue plantation. They do not give shade but look appealing,” he explained.

Of late the GWMC has been planting Bougainvillea spectabilis that gave the road from Kazipet to Madikonda an excellent look. They come in all colours – white, pink, saffron, red and light yellow. The spectacular display of colours is all there for one to see and enjoy. Mr. Raju said that Bougainvillea are more suitable as they require less maintenance and no watering required as well.

The professor said that the urban local body could also prefer planting Delonix Regea and Butae monosperma on median which also enhance the aesthetic beauty of urban land scape.

Environment activist V. Gurunadha Rao of Mahabubabad appreciating the GWMC personnel for planting Tabebuia aurea has opined that the people should also supplement the efforts of officials by adopting, nurturing and enjoying the trees in their respective localities.

“Our orientation towards nature should change. Instead of looking for ways of exploitation, we should preserve these diverse plants that exist only to help humanity,” he opined.
