Are you aware that there are over 600 varieties of rice? If not, make a visit to Sampradaya Santa, an exhibition-cum-sale at Cantonment Park, Picket, next to Jubilee Bus station to check samples of over 150 varieties and even purchase a few varieties.
It’s not just rice varieties. Visitors can find 14 varieties of foxtail millets, 16 varieties of ragi (cereal), different varieties of Tulsi teas and many more. Organised by Grameenmall Foundation, Sampradaya Santa is a meeting place for nature-friendly consumers and farmers producing healthy and natural organic food products, says Sitaram Komaragiri, managing trustee of the foundation.
The objective behind conducting the expo is to create awareness among people about the benefits of consuming organic food products. This apart, the expo focuses on three elements - samskruti (tradition), prakruti (nature) and aharam (food). Under samskruti, the organisation, in association with Keshava Seva Samiti, conducted the traditional Chekka Bhajana and Kolatam shows at the venue for visitors, he says.
The expo features organic vegetables and fruit, including Kesari, Himayat, Daseri and Banaganpalli mangoes, cereals, millets, jute collections, handlooms, handmade chocolates and cookies. For food lovers, there will be a live kitchen offering cookies, jawar rotis and millet snacks.
To promote conservation of environment and nature, the organisation is also conducting a snake show at 6 p.m. at the venue. Further, all visitors will be provided with a free sapling as well, he adds.
