Girl crushed to death under tractor

A five-year-old girl, Ruchita, was crushed to death under the wheels of a tractor near Aramghar on Saturday when her parents were repairing a pothole-riddled road using tar. An executive engineer of GHMC, Rajasekhar, who was standing near the tractor, also sustained injuries.

Before commencing their work in the morning, the girl’s parents – Buchaiah and Manga – seated her on the tractor while they joined the municipal officials in attending to the road repair works between Shamshabad and Aramghar. While they were busy in their work, a speeding Bolero vehicle came from behind and hit the tractor.

As a result, the girl was flung into the air and fell down. She then came under the wheels of the tractor, which moved forward owing to the impact, and sustained grievous head injuries. Death was instant for the girl, said Rajendranagar Sub-Inspector K. Kanakaiah. He said the couple hailing from Manchal in Ranga Reddy district was staying in Meerpet.

The Sub-Inspector said a case was booked against the Bolero driver and the girl’s body was handed over to the family members after an autopsy at the Osmania General Hospital.
