Mohammed Aijaz Ahmed alias Aijaz, 35, who remained elusive since 2006 after committing a murder and indulging in other disruptive activities, was caught by the CID in Kuwait with the assistance of Interpol. He was brought to city and produced in a local court which remanded him to judicial custody. At present, he is lodged in Cherlapally central prison.
Ahmed, hailing from Bodhan in Nizamabad, was a close associate of Azam Ghori, who killed in an encounter a few years ago. Ahmed became close to Ghori who allegedly established Indian Muslim Mohammadi Mujahideen (IMMM) and the organisation required funds to carry out its activities.
Accordingly, they met a couple – G. Sambasiva Rao and Radhika – who hatched a plan to kill their neighbour K. Laxminarayan to get money to execute their activities. Ghori along with Ahmed and others picked an argument with Laxminarayana and murdered him under the limits of Vijayawada Town police station.
Subsequently, the amount given by the couple was used for executing blasts at Kakatiya Sweet House in Moghalpura, Lamba theatre in Secunderabad, and Venkateswara Cinema theatre at Metpally in Karimnagar.
They also killed a jeweller, Mahavir Prasad Modi, in Begum Bazaar. After Ghori’s encounter, all the IMMM activists, including Ahmed, were arrested in 2000.
Ahmed attended court for sometime after securing bail and later remained elusive.
