The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner, Somesh Kumar, on Tuesday directed the officials to hasten up the desilting works by deploying more labour and machinery in shift basis and complete it before the onset of monsoon.

During inspection of works in progress at different points in central and south zone, the Commissioner wanted necessary action taken immediately for removing silt along the surplus platform of Hussain Sagar to improve discharge capacity of the surplus weir.

The officials were also asked to take steps for removal of encroachments that had come up at some nalas and to set up retaining walls and chain link mesh to curb the menace of dumping, according to a press release. Following instructions from the Commissioner, the Circle-9 staff removed encroachments at Amberpet within three hours.
