GHMC sports wing earns ₹1 crore revenue

In what was described as a first in the history of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, its Sports Wing has earned a revenue of ₹1 crore by taking up schemes like Pay & Use and Pay & Play at all sports facilities.

GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy on Tuesday said powers would be delegated to Zonal and Deputy Commissioners. This would give a boost to sports activity at their level without forwarding each and every file to the Head Office thus paving the way for smooth and overall development of sporting activity. At a review meeting, he instructed officials to personally monitor and inspect the sports activities in their jurisdiction. He said the GHMC encouraged optimal utilisation of facilities for the benefit of needy youth.

Additional Commissioner (Sports) Srinivas Reddy outlined the various sports activities taken up in GHMC. At present, he said there were 521 play grounds and 14 sports complexes and 7 swimming pools, while another 10 big ongoing projects were under progress.

‘Haritha Haram’

In another meeting, Mr. Reddy directed Zonal and Deputy Commissioners to work in tandem with Urban Forestry and Horticulture officials to identify open places, locations and new spots for developing parks in the twin cities.

Under the Telangana ‘Haritha Haram’ programme for 2017, Government had fixed a target of planting 1 crore saplings in open spaces, alongside avenues, green curtain, green ways, institutional plantation and distribution of Home Stead Plants. Additional Commissioner C.N. Raghu Prasad explained about the Haritha Haram project and achievements thus far. He said the Andhra Bank had as a part of its corporate social responsibility initiative, provided 3,390 tree guards worth Rs. 25 lakh..
