GHMC proposes to buy land for 2BHK

Standing Committee nod to plan to build 20,000 flats

About 95 acres of private land has been identified by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in Kollur village of Ramachandrapuram for construction of double bedroom flats for the urban poor.

The GHMC Standing Committee, which met on Thursday, has approved the resolution to send proposals for purchase of the land at a cost of ₹33.25 crore, so that a total 20,000 flats can be built at a single location.

GHMC Commissioner B.Janardhan Reddy had inspected the location on Wednesday.

Another proposal approved pertained to amendments to old Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Act, 1955 with regard to revision of lease period.

Pending projects

Other proposals which were approved include those pertaining to completion of pending JNNURM housing projects at Jawahar Nagar and Abdullahpurmet, health insurance of ₹5 lakh for corporators and their family members, construction of new market complex in Patancheru, construction of drain in Turkapalli of Alwal circle, and renting of three vehicle-mounted fogging machines.

Mayor Bonthu Rammohan presided over the meeting which had participation from 13 members, the Commissioner and other higher level officials.

In another meeting with the collectors of Medchal and Ranga Reddy districts, Mr. Reddy urged the former to cooperate in land acquisition for implementation of various schemes in the city, including double bedroom and road widening, a press release informed.
