GHMC move to connect north with south

GHMC is embarking on an ambitious road development project that would connect the north of the city with the south.

If grounded, the project as part of the subsequent phases of the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) will provide an elevated corridor between Malakpet in the south and Jubilee Bus Station in the north. “If this project comes up, people from the south of the city can ride till Jubilee Bus Station without touching the ground,” an engineer said. On one side, it envisages improvement of corridor between Ambedkar statue near Tank Bund till Patny via Lower Tank Bund, Sailing Club, and Karbala Maidan, and between Karbala Maidan and Paradise. On the southern side, improvement is planned from Malakpet Gunj up to Liberty Junction in Himayatnagar, to be integrated with the elevated corridor from JBS to Masab Tank. Elevated corridors are being planned also between Ambedkar statue to Afzalgunj and from L.B. Stadium to Chadarghat, which will be integrated with Musi Skyway. “There was a proposal for Musi Skyway on the East-West Corridor from Ghatkesar to Narsingi along the Musi, which was eventually dropped for various reasons. Instead of the originally planned 41 km, we are now proposing a 4-km skyway between Chadarghat and Puranapul to achieve overall connectivity from the south to north,” the engineer has informed. A private consultant has been engaged for preparation of feasibility report and the Detailed Project Report, which may be submitted in three months.
