General strike set to hit essential services

September 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 28, 2016 02:52 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The nation-wide strike on Wednesday called by 10 central trade unions protesting against changes to labour laws, disinvestment and privatisation of public sector undertakings is expected to have its impact on essential services in the twin cities and Telangana State.

The unions include those representing the interests of employees in private sector enterprises including banks, insurance and transport companies. When contacted, a representative of the National Federation of Indian Railwaymen said no train service would be hit because railway employees had resolved to extend support to the strike without actually participating in it. In the State capital, a majority of autorickshaws are expected to be off road, said Federation of Telangana Auto Drivers office-bearer A. Satti Reddy.
