Gardener murders elderly woman

A gardener forcibly entered a house at Maruthinagar of Chaitanyapuri during the daytime on Thursday and stabbed to death a housewife, who was alone in the house.

Venkatalakshmi, 65, was in the front room of her house when the accused walked into the yard around 10.30 a.m. Later identified as Rugma Rao, who maintains gardens and plants at houses on contract basis, the accused was in an inebriated condition.

“Actually, a client called him to his house for cleaning the garden and Rao came to the wrong house in a drunken condition,” Chaitanyapuri Inspector M. Ravinder Reddy said. As he was speaking incoherently and mouthing abuses, the woman asked him to leave the place. Police are yet to ascertain what transpired later. But the neighbours told them that Rao rushed inside the house carrying a knife and attacked Venkatalakshmi indiscriminately. Hearing her cries, neighbours rushed to the place and caught the attacker.

She was rushed to a hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead.Man held for cheating job aspirants

The Cyberabad police on Thursday arrested a 34-year-old man, B. Vinod Kumar, for allegedly cheating job aspirants after collecting money from them by promising jobs in Doordarshan. Vinod introduced himself as the Director General of Doordarshan and contacted a few persons through an email id – ‘doordarshan.newdelhi99@gmail.com’ saying that he could help them secure jobs. He collected Rs. 14.60 lakh from four persons, the police said.

Prisoner gives police the slip

An undertrial prisoner from Khammam district gave the police the slip and escaped from their custody at Institute of Mental Health in Erragadda on Wednesday night. The prisoner, Krishna, who was brought to the hospital for a check-up, asked the constables to remove his handcuffs as he wanted to go to the toilet, the S. R. Nagar police said. However, he escaped from the place.

Gold seized at RGIA

Customs officials seized 1.6 kg of gold valued at Rs. 45 lakh from two passengers at RGI Airport at Shamshabad on Thursday. The passengers, Mustafa and his wife, arrived from Kuwait via Muscat by flight.

Seven-year-old hit by autorickshaw

A seven-year-old girl died after being hit by an autorickshaw at Jawaharnagar on Thursday evening. The child, Swati, was going out to buy some chocolates from a shop at Chinnapur village in Jawaharnagar when a seven-seater autorickshaw hit her. She sustained serious injuries and died on the spot, the police said. Locals caught the driver and handed him over to the police.

Santoshnagar armed robbery: one held

A member of the gang which took away Rs. 3.49 lakh after opening fire at two persons in Santoshnagar two months ago was caught by the Gujarat police in Ghaziabad of Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.

A city police team started for Ghaziabad and will bring the arrested person, Islamia, here on prisoner transit warrant for investigation. A hunt is on for two of his absconding associates, Wasim and Chacha, the South zone DCP V. Satyanarayana said. The trio and their associates were responsible for nearly 30 robberies committed at gunpoint in the States of Gujarat, UP, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, investigations revealed. They procured country-made short firearms.
