A doctor from Gadwal town of Jogulamba district of Telangana, 190 km from here, was kidnapped for ransom in Delhi by a cab driver, his family members said on Saturday.

The abductor is demanding ₹5 crore to set the doctor A. Srikanth Goud free. Twenty-nine-year-old Srikanth completed MBBS from a medical college in China. He was in Delhi for the past two years and preparing for medical post-graduate course entrance test while working in a private hospital there.

After finishing work late on Thursday night, the doctor booked a private cab to reach his home.

The next day, the cab driver rang up the cab’s owner stating that he had abducted the doctor who boarded the vehicle the previous day. “Pay ₹5 crore to release him. Otherwise, you will not get even your car back,” the cab driver was quoted as saying by the vehicle owner.

He approached the Preet Vihar police of East Delhi and lodged a complaint.

“Delhi police are confident of rescuing the doctor. They are declining to divulge any clues in the case,” Jogulamba SP Vijay Kumar told The Hindu . The kidnapped doctor’s family members approached the district police seeking help in securing his release.

Srikanth is the only son of toddy tapper A. Janardhan Goud and Bharatamma. He has three sisters. The old couple said theirs was a poor family and had struggled for several years to see their son becoming a doctor. “Just when we were hoping that he would support us, this shocking news has shattered our dreams,” they said.
