Residents staying close to function halls and public places can now look forward to having sound sleep as the city police is planning to keep a check on the noise levels and prosecute hall owners for any violations.
Noise levels at function halls would be monitored through a noise level measuring device. If any hall owner uses music system emitting sounds beyond prescribed decibel levels, then action would be initiated against such people, besides prosecution, said City Police Commissioner A.K. Khan while addressing the Confederation of Welfare Association here on Tuesday.
Each noise level measuring device would cost about Rs. 2 lakh and the department has already purchased one such device. Circulars would be issued to all function hall owners and other public event organizers about the sound decibels to be maintained after 10 p.m., explained Mr. Khan. There are many functions halls in Mehdipatnam, Champapet, Secunderabad, Bowenpally and other areas and complaints from residents about noise nuisance keep increasing. Presently, Rakshak and Blue Colts personnel are visiting function halls and instructing them to reduce sound levels at nights but not many hall owners adhere to their instructions. Equipped with the noise level measuring device, the police personnel would visit the function halls and record sound levels. A copy of the record would be used as evidence in the court, he informed.
Representatives of 43 colony associations attended the meeting and expressed their problems, which include traffic, chain snatching, illegal parking, thefts etc. On measures being taken to ease traffic congestion at Mehdipatnam, the police commissioner replied that 17 junctions, including Mehdipatnam were identified for re-modelling. Once it is done, majority of the problems would be solved, he assured the residents.
