Five killed in accident

Truck rams auto on NH near Jadcherla

Five persons died and six others were injured in an accident involving an autorickshaw and a truck on the national highway near Jadcherla in Mahabubnagar district on Saturday evening.

The accident occurred at 6 p.m. when a loaded-truck heading towards Kurnool crashed into an oncoming auto, while it was crossing the road, according to B Bhaskar, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Mahabubnagar. The deceased have been identified as K. Laxamma (30), K. Balamma (55), Gangabai (45), K. Rangamma (45), all natives of Bandamedapalli, a hamlet in Jadcherla and the auto driver Mohd. Rafiuddin (47), a resident of Gangapur. Police said all the deceased were travelling in the auto-rickshaw.

“Eleven persons were travelling in the auto. Six were injured and rushed to Jadcheral government hospital,” the DSP said.

The deceased were shifted to the government hospital for autopsy.

A case of rash driving has been booked against the truck driver, who is currently absconding.
