Twelve persons belonging to a family had a miraculous escape when fire broke out in their house in Bhavaninagar early on Saturday morning, the police said.
The house owner – Shaik Mohd Sayeed (65), a labourer – lived along with his family in Salam Chowk area in Bhavaninagar.
Around, 5 a.m. some neighbours noticed smoke coming out from their asbestos roofed house and raised an alarm.
Family was trapped
“The family members got trapped inside the house as fire broke out near the main door of the house. Sensing danger, three neighbourers – Shaik Sharfuddin, Shaik Fareed, Shaik Taher – and three policemen climbed on the adjacent houses and then broke the asbestos roofing of Sayeed’s house and clambered inside. Later, they brought the inmates out one after another,” Inspector Bhavaninagar B. Srinivasa Rao said.
Amongst those rescued were eight children aged below 10 years. The injured were later rushed to different hospitals for treatment. Property worth Rs. 2 lakh was reduced to ashes in the accident. Police suspect that the fire broke out due to short circuit.
