An ex-serviceman, Abraham Lincoln, tried to immolate himself on Mahabubnagar Collectorate premises alleging that some locals are not allowing him to cultivate the land allotted to him by the government.
Enquiries revealed that for several years now, the ex-serviceman hailing from Serilingampally in Ranga Reddy district, was made to run from pillar-to-post with no officer actually solving his problem. Once he retired from service, he was allocated five acres of land near Kandivanam in Farookhnagar mandal of the district. He rued that the locals were not allowing him to till the land.
When an earlier complaint did not yield the desired result, Mr. Lincoln came to the Collectorate on Monday morning to lodge another complaint in the Praja Vaani programme. He whipped out a bottle that was said to have contained kerosene, and poured it upon himself.
Later, some Collectorate staff ensured that he meet a senior officer, who in turn solved his problem, said Circle Inspector A. Seetaiah.
