The leakage of gas from new well of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited at Chinapandraka village of Kruthivennu mandal in Krishna District has been arrested by the experts.
On Monday morning, Krishna District Collector Babu. A told The Hindu that the gas was going out from the ‘Gas escaping equipment’ installed at the well as its pressure became uncontrollable when the depth of the well reached 3,800 meters from the ground. “It is neither leakage nor explosion", he said.
"The quantity of gas that escaped from the equipment is larger than the estimated quantity. The ONGC has dug up a new well 3,800 meters deep from the ground level where the gas became uncontrollable”, said Mr. Babu. “The ONGC’s special team based at Rajahmundry arrived at the spot and controlled the pressure of the gas on Monday morning and brought the situation completely under control”, confirmed Mr. Babu.
On damage caused due to the incident, Mr. Babu said that nearly 30 acres of paddy fields and 60 coconut trees surrounding to the site were damaged. “Officials are engaged in enumeration of crop damage and the ONGC has been asked to adopt the Chinapandraka village. The digging activity at the site has been stopped temporarily,” the Collector said.
