GHMC drivers of various vehicles have been warned that in case they are responsible for fatalities in road mishaps they will attract a fine upto ₹3 lakh and seven years of jail. And, if they are caught for drunk driving, jumping signals or crossing the line, they would have to shell out fines between ₹10,000-20,000. For repeat offenders, the licenses will be revoked, GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy said on Saturday
The drivers are currently undergoing counselling sessions with the help of traffic police and of the 1,000 drivers about 400 had attended the programme taken up following the mishap where four members of family was killed after a garbage truck crashed into them few days ago.
Timings
Sanitation workers have been permitted to work from 5 a.m. to 12 noon instead of 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. in view of the hot temperatures during day time. The decision was taken when a sanitary field assistant contacted Municipal Minister K.T. Rama Rao and requested change of timings.
Summer sports camps
The municipal corporation’s annual summer sports camps will begin from April 24 to May 31 across 2,064 places in the twin cities in 51 sports for an estimated 1.5 lakh youngsters in the age groups of 6-16 years.
More than 2,000 coaches including players who played for the State and country will be in charge at the 251 grounds, seven swimming pools and 13 sports complexes owned by GHMC. There are also seven roller skating rings and five tennis courts.
