The three-hour daily power cuts apart, several areas in and around the city are experiencing unscheduled outages

Even as the city residents are simmering under the gradually increasing summer heat, power woes are here to worsen the season’s torridness for them. The three-hour daily power cuts apart, quite a few areas in and around the city are often experiencing erratic outages for durations of more than an hour.

Areas around Charminar reportedly suffered a blackout on Tuesday, as power went off early in the evening, and was restored only after 2 a.m. the next day. The areas which were affected include Panchmohalla, Moghalpura, Laad Bazar, Gulzar Houz and others. Pasha Qadri, MLA of the area, reportedly staged a sit-in near the transformer due to breakdown of which the blackout occurred.

Unscheduled blackouts are more often in areas surrounding the city, which are part of the Ranga Reddy Zone of the CPDCL. These include areas such as Kukatpally, Malkajgiri, Saroornagar, L.B. Nagar, Kothapet, Vanasthalipuram, Mansurabad, Uppal, and Nacharam among others.

“We suffered extended power cut on Wednesday in the morning hours. The scheduled outage was from 7.30 a.m. to 9 a.m., but the power was restored only after 10.30 a.m. However, in compensation, we were spared for an hour in the second spell,” says Vijaya Reddy, a resident of Hanuman Nagar.

Similar was the situation on Tuesday for Malkajgiri residents, who experienced two hours additional power cut in the morning hours. However, they did not get any compensatory relief during the second spell.

Officials from the CPDCL Metro Zone are unavailable for an explanation.
