Planning to be present at the inaugural function of the Osmania University centenary celebrations on its campus on April 26 and got the mandatory registration done online?
Well, that is not sufficient. Even if you get the bar-coded entry pass issued by the authorities, you can gain entry into the venue only if your fingerprints linked to Aadhaar card match.
In the backdrop of reports that some persons — especially activists of student organisations or political parties — might indulge in protests, police are bringing in fingerprint scanners to the venue to allow only ‘genuine’ persons inside. Barring the VIPs attending the event, members of all other categories like Alumni, teachers, non-teaching staff and students would have to undergo fingerprint scanning to get inside.
As part of the online registration to secure entry pass to attend the historical event, the applicants have to furnish their respective Aadhaar number. “Trouble mongers would try to get hold of passes of others and enter the venue. Such attempts for wrongful entry can be checked as fingerprints won’t match,” said a senior police officer overseeing securing arrangements.
At the venue, policemen carrying fingerprint scanners would be posted at every entry point except the one meant for VIPs. The scanners will have database of the fingerprints collected while issuing Aadhaar cards.
The entry pass holder will be allowed inside only if his or her fingerprints match with that of the Aadhaar card number mentioned during online registration, the police officer made it clear. Entry points for each category like VIPs, teaching staff or alumni would be different.
