ADILABAD: Adilabad police on Wednesday introduced the electronic beat system in Town I and Town II police stations.
“This has opened a huge possibility in crime control,” Superintendent of Police M. Sreenivas asserted as he talked about the initiative which is perhaps the first of its kind in Telangana.
Addressing a press conference, the SP said, beat constables will be video recording everything while on beat in the night in the mobile phone instruments being provided to them.
They will be uploading the videos either in real time or at a slightly delayed period on the WhatsApp police messaging platform and this data will be stored in respective police stations.
Curbing crime
“A trial run of the e-beat system in 12 beats has resulted in zero crime during the last 10 days,” Mr. Srinivas pointed out.
“The system not only helps keep a check on discharge of beat duties but the video footage will become important part of evidence in case a crime is found to have been committed,” he added.
The district police chief also demonstrated an anti burglary alarm suitable to prevent thefts and burglaries in residential places. He said the police was trying to get some shops in town to stock the alarms to help the general public buy it for installing in their homes.
