GHMC North Zone has earned a revenue of ₹11.4 lakh in the month of March this year, merely by selling dry garbage.

The amount would be distributed among Swachh Auto drivers and rag pickers who helped segregate and transport waste to the dry resource centre, a press note from GHMC informed.

The dry resource centre - under the Secunderabad Circle - is near Sanjeevaiah Park, where the garbage segregation takes place with the help of 123 Swachh Auto drivers and 85 rag pickers.

In March, the dry garbage amounted close to 181 metric tonnes, which constitutes 15 kinds of items such as plastic, metal, broken glass, beer bottles and footwear among others.

The Swachh Auto drivers and rag pickers collect waste from households and transport it to transfer stations, from where the dry waste would be dumped at dry resource centre for sorting by various agencies.

Dry resource centres are also functional in Rajendranagar, Uppal, and LB Nagar, the note said.
