The Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission (APSHRC) directed the Balanagar police here on Friday to provide security to a man who claimed threat to his life by a city-based clinical research organisation.

The man, a resident of Chandanagar, had approached the APSHRC alleging that the clinical research organisation at Miyapur paid him only Rs.1,200 after promising to pay him a sum of Rs.12,500 for conducting “clinical tests” on him of a new drug discovered by the research firm. The drug was offered to him for a period of one week, he alleged in the petition.

Threatened

He accused that the research organisation’s “henchmen” came to his house and threatened to kill him if he does not withdraw his petition filed before the APSHRC.

The man, again approached the APSHRC in this regard, after which it directed Balanagar’s Assistant Commissioner of Police to give him protection. - PTI
