Not sure if the vegetable you bring home is pesticide coated or fruit, chemically tarnished? If so, visit the “Sampradaya Santa” this Sunday at YMCA, Secunderabad, to get organic, chemical and fertiliser-free vegetables, fruit and cereals and many more commodities.
Grameen Mall Foundation, a NGO, is organising the first-of-its-kind fair wherein visitors also get jute bags, cereals, earthen compost bins, traditionally woven sarees and snacks made of organic millets.
The objective is to promote the three elements – Sanskruthi (tradition), Prakruthi (nature) and Aharam (food). Thanks to the changing lifestyle, people are used to junk food, polythene bags and other environment endangering materials, said Sitaram Komaragiri, Managing Trustee of the Foundation.
“By offering organic vegetables, jute materials and other items, the aim is to help people get safe and pesticide-free vegetables and do away with the use of polythene and other hazardous materials,” says Mr. Komaragiri. Grameen Mall Foundation trains farmers in traditional farming practices that do not encourage the use of pesticides and chemicals. All the products are sold to consumers directly at these fairs to curb the role of middlemen, he explained.
The three-year-old organisation is planning to organise similar fairs every Sunday at Marredpally, Kondapur and Vanasthalipuram.
