District administration to improve efficiency of city schools

August 16, 2016 07:48 am | Updated 07:48 am IST - Hyderabad:

The district administration is busy setting up sanitation and drinking water facilities in 800 government schools in Hyderabad right in the beginning of this academic year. Funds for this seem to have come through a partnership between the State government and public representative, including MPs, MLAs, and MLCs whose constituencies fall in the city.

As per the directions of Minister for School Education Kadiam Srihari, the project is expected to be complete by the coming academic year. Apart from basic amenities, schools are also expected to get financial assistance to set up additional classrooms, resume or install power supply, and get furniture.

While a total of Rs. 5 crore will be spent in each Assembly constituency for the same, public servants will contribute one-fifth of this amount. The funds are sourced from Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) and Constituency Development Funds (CDF). Once the project gets implemented successfully in the city, it is expected to be replicated in 6,000 other schools across Telangana.

Facilities will be available for students at the commencement of the academic year 2017-18. Infrastructure development is expected to improve “efficiency and enrolment in government schools”.

A total of 21 public servants have agreed to contribute funds, said officials at the Hyderabad district Collectorate. In a release issued by the district administration, Collector and magistrate Rahul Bojja informed that the public servants are also given complete details about the expenditure and on what their welfare funds are being put to use for. “The system is extremely transparent,” he said.
