Like all other directories, the A.P. Casteless Couples Directory too lists details of individuals. But, the significant aspect about this directory is that it gives details of 425 couples, who got married after breaking the barriers of caste and religion in the State.
Under the aegis of Andhra Pradesh ‘Kulanirmulana Sangham', the directory was released by freedom fighter Gutta Subramanyam and his wife Jawaharibai, at a special programme held here on Sunday.
It took over two years for Mrs. Lakshmi, a retired employee, to come out with the book. Apart from the details, it also gives an identity and motivation for all like-minded people, who are working towards a casteless society, said C.L.N. Gandhi, president of the sangham.
The objective is to promote a casteless society and inspire the next generation in striving to eradicate caste system from the society, said Lakshmi Nageswar, who compiled and edited the directory. After retiring as Joint Director of Accounts, she started ‘Varnantara Vivaha Vedika; to perform inter-caste and inter religious marriages.
Atheist Centre chief Lavanam said that the government should extend support, including reservation to children of couples, who have got married from different castes and religions.
