Reluctance on part of seniors fearing poll reversal, Congress party leadership was forced to request none other than AICC Digvijaya Singh to rush to Hyderabad to hold wide-ranging consultations with the party seniors and Warangal leaders to shortlist the candidate for the Warangal parliamentary seat bypoll.
Sensing an outside chance of humbling the ruling TRS, the Congress leadership is determined to field a strong candidate but is faced with finding the right choice.
While the majority of the Warangal Congress leaders backed the candidature of former Peddapalli MP G.Vivekananda, the latter is reluctant to enter the fray.
Mr. Digivijaya Singh himself asked the former MP to meet him at Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday to persuade him to contest the bypolls.
The party his hoping to cash in on the resentment among the farming community against the TRS government and the general anger of the people at the spiralling rise in prices of essential commodities, besides the disappointment of the youth in not getting the promised jobs.
TRS candidate
It is understood that Dr. Vivekananda turned down the request to contest the elections even as the entire Warangal leadership felt that he was the best choice in the present scenario to face the elections. They told the AICC leader that the TRS too had selected a new comer and green horn Gudimalla Ravi Kumar as it candidate.
They opined that it the party got its act together, the TRS would face a tough time.
