Dentists seek jobs in PHCs

July 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The city dentists have requested the Telangana Government to immediately help them deal with severe unemployment. The Telangana Dental Association members have appealed to the government to fill up the vacant Primary Health Centres (PHC) across the State with a good percentage of dentists. “We are ready to work in the rural areas. The government can introduce a policy wherein we could be trained for six months and then inducted in to PHCs,” said M. Priyanka, President, Telangana Dental Association. “Since we also have a medicine background, we should also get a chance to work for PHCs.”

Meagre earnings

Highlighting their unemployment woes, the members said that there are about 10,000 dentists in the city alone, most of who are neither employed nor in a position to start their own clinics. “In the last few months, some dentists have also committed suicide. Many of the dentists are not earning more than Rs 5,000 per month which is less than a sweeper’s salary.”

The members also requested the government to issue health cards to them.
