Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has justified the defection of leaders to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) from other parties as it would, he said, help political and economic stability of Telangana and showcase the strength of the State to the rest of the country.
Addressing a meeting on the occasion of Nalgonda MP Gutha Sukhender Reddy and two other MLAs from the district – R. Ravindra Kumar and N. Bhaskar Rao – joining the TRS, Mr. Rao said the leaders joining the party should not be viewed from a narrow angle as they contributed to political stability in the State which was important in the background of conspiracies hatched by the Opposition.
Mr. Rao made a specific mention of Leader of Opposition in Assembly K. Jana Reddy’s remark that those who joined the TRS were power-hungry and that they maligned the State. “It is not the State that is maligned but you,” he said.
Stating that a lot of good things were taking place in the government, the Chief Minister said the latest among them was the decision to regularise unregistered documents. Going by the good response to the programme, the deadline for applications was extended by a week.
He stressed the need for strengthening political forces in the State to fight the leadership that had supported integration in the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh.
However, leaders like Mr. Jana Reddy and working president of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka were a stumbling block.
Mr. Jana Reddy was in the Cabinet of former Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy who weaned away 10 TRS MLAs.
Subsequently, TRS MP Vijayashanti and another MLA G. Arvind Reddy followed in their footsteps.
The people of Telangana had come out of the claws of integrationists and they should not face a similar situation again.
The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, however, talked about integration of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana even after the bifurcation of the State.
Mr. Rao recalled that Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president Asaduddin Owaisi had met him in the initial days of formation of separate Telangana and cautioned him against plans of the Congress and Telugu Desam Party to ensure that President’s rule was imposed on the State.
The MIM had stood behind the TRS at that stage.
