Customs official receives WCO Certificate of Merit

Senior Customs official Pullela Nageswara Rao currently posted as Commissioner (Appeals) in Kolkata was conferred with the ‘WCO Certificate of Merit’ for 2013. He is one among the 13 customs officers in the country to be chosen for this award. The Union Revenue Secretary Sumit Bose presented the certificate to Mr. Rao at a ceremony held as part of the International Customs’ Day celebrations-2013 in New Delhi.

The WCO Certificate of Merit is awarded by the Secretary General, World Customs Organisation (WCO), Brussels and is presented by Indian Customs Administration to the officers who have demonstrated dedication in their work and contributed to the academic field in Customs related matters.

Mr. Rao hails from Andhra Pradesh and is credited to have a record detection of anti-smuggling cases which involved seizure of goods valued at Rs. 4.17 crore and commercial fraud cases valued at Rs.23.5 crore.

Mr. Rao is about to take charge as new Additional Director General, Regional Training Institute, National Academy of Customs Excise & Narcotics (NACEN) in Hyderabad shortly.
