Curtains for GHMC poll campaign

November 22, 2009 02:51 pm | Updated 02:51 pm IST - Hyderabad

The fortnight long campaigning for the GHMC poll ended on Saturday. A lacklustre affair all along, electioneering picked up some momentum only in the last couple of days.

Leaders of major political parties hit the campaign trail right from the morning on Saturday in a last ditch attempt to woo the voters. Traffic was thrown out of gear as they criss-crossed the City with their band of supporters.

After a whirl wind tour of different divisions, Telugu Desam leader, N. Chandrababu Naidu, ended his campaign in Asifnagar while Praja Rajyam leader, Chiranjeevi, concluded his campaign at Begumpet. The Kadapa MP, Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, toured the city for the second day today drawing good crowds. He ended his road show at Banjara Hills.

Lok Satta’s last day campaign was marked by blowing of ‘whistles’, the party symbol. Its leader, Jayaprakash Narayan, did a quick round of various divisions addressing road side gatherings. Party workers handed over ‘whistles’ to the public and everyone was seen blowing them. Lok Satta’s campaign ended at Yousufguda.

The BJP leaders, M. Venkaiah Naidu, Bandaru Dattatreya and others visited various places and addressed meetings. The Majlis had its last public meeting at Dar-us-Salam where candidates from different areas came in rallies.

The GHMC campaign is unique in that not many poll violations cases were recorded by police.
